I like traveling. Traveling, especially flying, is full of its own adventures—covid tests, packing, staying within the luggage weight limit, going through security checks, airplane food, turbulence, trying to sleep on an eight-hour overnight flight, hauling luggage around endlessly long airport terminals, jetlag, and so much more. Sometimes it’s fun, but it’s not always easy.
Life is an adventure. There are ups and downs, joys and fears, sunny days and sleepless nights. Like flying, life often has “turbulence”—rough times when we just need to hold on and trust the Pilot, the One Who holds our lives in His hands. Sometimes life doesn’t go as we may have planned, but God’s plans are so much better than ours (Isaiah 55:9). He is in control.
Imagine for a moment that you are sitting in a seat beside a window in an airplane. Everything you see outside—the ground, people, vehicles, and buildings—represents your life, your fears, your trials, and your problems. The plane has taxied onto the runway and has been cleared for takeoff. The plane ascends, and everything outside appears to fade in the distance. The literal size of those things representing your life did not change, but your perspective on them changed.
I believe we as Christians can view life similarly. Though we only see little segments of our lives at a time, God sees the “big picture.” Job 28:23-24 says, “God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof. For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven” (KJV). Sometimes we feel like God isn’t paying attention to what we are going through. But He is. Maybe we need to change our perspective to be more like His. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
A verse that has challenged me lately is 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” Problems in life can be so inconvenient, stressful, and even painful, yet God cares for and about you–every little detail. Focus on eternal things, and give all your worries to God, the One Who cares about you more than you will ever know. He holds your life in His hand. View life from His perspective.
So good! I definitely get caught up with the trials and forget the bigger picture and forget to trust the artist of that picture
