Clement strolled down the dusty Alexandrian streets one sunny day, his white robe swishing as he walked. What he saw revolted him. Open displays of transgenderism appalled him, and even worse, that it was being accepted by the citizens who weren’t transgender. Grown men wore women’s clothing, applied perfume, sported feminine hairstyles, and had their bodies shaved in public salons. Clement said that those men “detest[ed] the bloom of manliness,” and it pained him to see it. [1]
One would think Clement of Alexandria was walking the streets of modern New York, Los Angeles, or even London, but he was not.
A cursory glance at history will reveal that societies who tolerate such acts as transgenderism or homosexuality rot from the inside, and weaken it for a conquering force to sweep in. Rome is a prime example. Their infidelity and heinous acts deteriorated them morally and aided greatly in their eventual collapse.
The so called ‘Equality Act’ will lead America down a similar path. It slices deeply into religious freedom, and will affect women, children, business owners, and even churches as it plows down old barriers that were set in place by Congress.
The Heritage Foundation gives 7 reasons as to why the bill should concern you:
1) It would penalize Americans who don’t affirm new sexual norms or gender ideology.
2) It would compel speech.
3) It could shut down charities.
4) It would allow more biological males to defeat girls in sports.
5) It could be used to coerce medical professionals.
6) It could lead to more parents losing custody of their children.
7) It would enable sexual assault.
If you are surprised by this, just take a look at what has been leading up to it. In 2003 in Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court removed state anti-sodomy laws. Twelve years later same-sex marriage was legalized in Obergefell v. Hodges. In 2019, in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia it was ruled that employers could not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Equality Act has been slowly put in the water for almost two decades, warming people up to what it represents.
The Equality Act would penalize many Americans who believe that we are created male and female and that male and female were created for each other. [2] The bill adds that it prohibits a person from being denied access to a restroom, locker, or dressing room. This would destroy the safety and privacy of women, the rights that doctors and other medical professionals have to their conscience, free speech, and the religious liberty of all Americans.
The bill is being supported by the ‘Business Collation for the Equality Act’, which includes major tech companies such as Amazon, Facebook, and Google. This in itself should raise a few questions. Ryan T. Anderson, president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC), reported that his book When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Movement abruptly vanished from Amazon. This only raises more questions on Amazon’s intent with the Equality Act.
In the 2010 religious freedom proclamation, Obama states that religious freedom is a natural right to all humanity – not a privilege for any government to give or take away. [3] This is yet another reason to fret, as Congress has ignored and is trying to change its own previous legislation, and the words of its president, by pushing for the ‘Equality Act’.
Attempting to banish discrimination is a commendable objective, and while its stated purpose is to forbid discrimination based on a person’s sex, sexual identity, or on the basis of sexual orientation, it reaches into and removes people’s freedom of thought, and religion. In other words, the Equality Act begs a radical change from America, a change that would affect many, a change that Clement of Alexandria would see coming, and a change that will alter the lives of many Americans for the worse.
What can you do to help?
1) Pray!
2) Talk to your local senator and express your disapproval of the Equality Act.
3) Share this to others!
