“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.” – Psalms 61:2-3 (KJV)
Often times we, as humans, get overwhelmed by life. We have family, schooling, jobs, and just life in general. We forget to SLOW DOWN and focus on ๐พ๐๐ป. Psalms 61 helps me realize I need to slow down once in a while. Some people DO turn to God when things go wrong, or when life gets overwhelming, but how about when life is calm? In school, we were/are told that in order to prevent certain health issues, for instance, we can try things such as a better diet, more sleep, more water, or exercise.
These things are used as โpreventionsโ of some sort. Itโs kind of like life if you think about it. Of course, we canโt STOP things from happening in our lives, thatโs beyond our control, but we can make sure we have the right ways to control OURSELVES through these overwhelming times. All throughout the Bible weโre told to stay faithful in the Word so that we can face the obstacles that we have in our lives on this earth. We all need to be careful that we arenโt in Godโs word only when life gets hectic. Iโve found, especially lately, that if we begin to try and figure our whole lives out in one day, things will get way too overwhelming. We CANโT do that.
Only God knows whatโs in store for us, yet we try to figure it out anyway. When we fail to realize this, we begin to get into a whole host of problems. Like the amazing hymn “I know who holds tomorrow”. Knowing it, and truly resting in that fact, are different things, and theyโre not easy either. But with God all things are possible. We need to be careful that we arenโt focusing so much on the little things that wonโt matter, over the One who matters and will matter for eternity.
“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.” – Psalms 62:1-2
